As public radio stations across the country unite in the name of music, the city of Charlotte, NC is celebrating local art, and local station WDAV Classical Public Radio is lending a hand.

This April, organizations such as the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra, Opera Carolina, North Carolina Dance Theater, and the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art are partnering for Ulysses: Charlotte’s Spring Festival of the Arts. Now in its second year, the festival features lectures, exhibits and performances that use the latest in modern technology to merge the visual power of art with the beauty of music and dance.

In the true spirit of Public Radio Music Month, WDAV has been featuring festival artists through on-air arts features and performance chats. The stars of Opera Carolina’s production of The Pearl Fishers sang live from the WDAV studios. Choreographers from NC Dance Theater’s Contemporary Fusion chatted with the station’s midday host about the show and their careers. WDAV even went onsite to interview the Charlotte Symphony’s guest conductor before a big rehearsal.

“The Ulysses Festival embodies our mission to foster a vibrant local arts community,” said WDAV Interim General Manager Frank Dominguez. “Even though Public Radio Music Month and Ulysses last just one month, WDAV’s role as the megaphone for area arts organizations is a year-round job.”
